The Green Isle Ice Hockey Squad..

Even if Ice Hockey was invented in Great Britain, the only countries, today, being able to claim the title of the best nation in the world would be: Russia, Finland, Sweden, Canada, USA, Slovakia or the Czech.

Those being about the same quality, which means that all of those seven would be able to beat any of the other six, depending on which team has the best form for the day.

Reading on the Internation Ice Hockey Federation's ranking list, you find, at the bottom, on 44th place..

Exactly how many thought Ireland even had a Team?

In fact, there's not a single Ice Hockey rink in Ireland.. Neither indoors or outdoors. If they want to practice, they need to go to Northern Ireland. Ok. The same island, at least, but how come they have one in Northern Ireland?

Looking at their homepage, http://www.iiha.org, there's not that much information at all. In fact, if you want to get more information, you've got two phone-numbers listed.. Both going to 2 of the players in the team. Not to the coaches.. Not to some office or anything, but the home numbers to 2 of the players.

Now, some of you might think I'm amused by this, but in fact I'm not. It's more of being genuinely curious about them. Like.. How on earth did they come up with the idea to start? What they feel about it? etc.. How it felt, when they actually won against Armenia?

In fact, I sort of admire their entusiasm, and the willingness to go through all the effort in creating a team and have it live on etc..

I see blank

Videotapes, videotapes and even more videotapes..

It's starting to feel quite hopeless..

There's videotapes about everywhere.. at least it feel that way.

To the point where it make my head spin, trying to get some order..

The main problem is that the tapes have different "status".

First of all I've divided the tapes in 2 categories.. Those with Movies on them and those with TV-series, documentaries etc..

Those with movies on them, I place in my "Video-bookcases", where I have my bought videos and DVDs. (The Billy Bookcase is deep enough to fit two DVDs/Tapes or Tapes/Tapes. That way, I can hide the taped videos behind the DVDs and Bought videos, numbered 001 to ???.

The ones with various stuff, I've got in a closet.

In the same closet, I've got a lot of tapes which I haven't listed yet.

It wouldn't be a problem if all the numbered "Movie"-tapes stayed the way they are, but.. I've bought some of those movies on DVD or bought video, or simply replaced it with a new, better, recording, which means that some tapes are "erased" entirely (As in.. losing it's number), which means it leaves gaps. Some tapes are taken out, when one of the usually two movies can be replaced with another recording.

Before you know it.. you've got gaps in the numbering, you've got tapes with no number, you got numbered tapes among the "unlisted" ones. And among those, there are some that should be "updated" since I've recorded another movie on it, while others still have space left..

It's starting to feel as if.. the more I do, the less I know, and it's only a calm hope that all numbered tapes I've got in the bookcases do contain exaclty what they're supposed to contain..

I feel like I need a slave.. or a librarian.. that spent a couple of weeks of getting some proper system out of it.. or.. better.. That somehow, some fairy came here and simply replaced all those tapes with DVDs with all those movies..

Actually not.. My dream would be to have a huge server with a couple of Terabytes of space on them, where all movies, all music, all images, all documents etc, was stored, and I just had to access it through the computer..

Wanting to listen to a song.. Just search for it on that server, and listen to it.. Want to see a movie.. just search for the title and watch it..

A change is gonna cum (devo)

It's nice to know that some things never change..

Microsoft is gonna release "Service Pack 2" soon.. (well.. this autumn at least). Now, I would say.. Service Pack 2?? If you count all the security updates etc, I would say it's like.. Service Pack 395, or something..

The aim is to, once and for all, fix the various security problems in Windows XP.

A result of all that work with "Service Pack 2" is that the follow up to XP, "Codename: Longhorn" is delayed with a year. The beta version of it should've been released this summer, and it would've been launced in 2005. Now that has to wait until 2006.

I guess the wisest move Microsoft ever did, was to skip the years in the name of the OS, since, so far, not a single OS they've released, has been released the year it was meant to be released. I guess it would've been way too confusing to bang on the drum for "Windows '05", and then release "Windows '06". Not to mention the fact that the marketing campaign with the release of a new OS has to be orchestrated long before it's released. It would be embarrising and really expensive to create lots of ads for "Windows '05", and then rework all of them for a "Windows '06" campaign instead.
