I'm reading "The Salmon of Doubt" by Douglas Adams right now, which is a lot of his work collected + the 3rd unfinished Dirk Gently novel..

In it, he writes something that so much expresses what I believe, I've decided to borrow it, instead of trying to write something similar myself.

I am fascinated by religion. (Thats a completely different thing from believing in it!) It has such an inacalculably huge effect on human affairs. What is it? What does it represent? Why have we invented it? I love to keep poking and prodding at it. I've though about it so much over the years that that fascination is bound to spill over into my writing.

From "The American Atheist 37, No. 1 (Interview with Douglas Adams by David Silverman).
